Our PTQ event is still on for this Sat. August 25, 6pm.  Did you know, that we will be making PTQ history?  This will be the ONLY PTQ regular event to be held at night!  LCQ’s (last chance qualifiers) are often the night before Pro Tour events but not regular PTQ’s.  Wizards, did consider making us move it to a day event, but due to how close the event was decided to let it run.  Many players had already been allowed the day off from work to play.  Truth be told, I did not know that there was a day time preference for PTQ’s.  I scheduled this events time due to parking.  Parking restrictions for the shopping center are more relaxed during the evening.  I expect from here on out, Wizards will be posting time restrictions in their instructions when offering PTQ events in the future.  Come play and be a
part of MTG HISTORY!  That way you can say that you were there.       

 

 

In response to recent posts, just want to express that I can appreciate that we do not have the most space to work with for events but we try our best.  With this PTQ event and possible the next few pre-releases I will be utilizing the piano studio next to my store along with the hallway to give you all more space to play.  If space is still an issue with the use of the piano studio then if we are ever offered another PTQ event, I would consider renting a venue.  As far as the price of $35, sealed by far utilizes more product to run a PTQ event.  Six packs for the event, three packs for prize pool, 24 packs for top eight draft.  Just the 6+3 packs retail at a discounted $27.00 (suggestive retail for MTG packs are $3.99/pk).  Da Planet has the profit from the standard and draft PTQ to subsidize the $25 sealed and maybe they are going for
uniform PTQ pricing for their store?  Due to the length of the event and the fact that eating places will be closed we do plan to have offer a snack at sometime during the event likely around 10-11pm. 

 

In closing, I can respect if you don’t play due to our tighter space.  I can’t help the $10 price difference.  It just cost more to run sealed PTQ events and I do not have other PTQ events to off set the expense.  Thank you for taking the time to read this.  I hope to see you all this weekend and make Magic PTQ history with us.  Good luck and take care.

Venue doors open: 5:15 pm Registrations ends: 6 pm Event begins: 6:05 pm Parking:  In consideration of the other stores and merchants, please try your best to find street parking. We will have access to use the hallway and lobby of Ernest Chang’s Piano Studio for event.  Once event starts the exterior doors of building will be closed.  Only event players and staff will be allowed in venue before 7:15pm.  If event is too crowded spectators maybe asked to leave. Details: Tournament Structure: The structure for qualifier tournaments feeding Pro Tour Gatecrash will be modified Swiss-style, with the Top 8 players playing in a single-elimination format for prizes and invitation(s). Tournament Format: M2013 – 6 pack Sealed Deck with top 8 draft, Deck lists are required. Tournament Length: Swiss rounds – 50 minutes per round. Top 8 matches will have no time limit. Number of Swiss rounds based on attendance. Attendance Number of Swiss rounds 17 – 32 5 33 – 64 6 65 – 128 7 Advancement: All players may participate in all Swiss rounds. The Top 8 players after the final Swiss round will advance to the Top 8 single-elimination finals. Top 8 matches will be best 2 of 3. Where necessary, the standings after the Swiss rounds will still be used to determine final order in the standings. Prize(s): 1st place: Travel Reward to Pro-Tour Gatecrash February 15-17, 2013 2ND-8Th receive M2013 or Avacyn Restored Boosters (players choice).  Prizes payout depends on participation.  Three packs anted per participant toward prize pool. Prize payout will extend to 8Th-16Th if more than 64 participants enter event. Special thanks to Judge Aaron Hamer who will officiate our event.   Notes: Planeswalker Points multiplier 5x, REL: Competitive. The Magic: The Gathering Tournament Rules and Magic: The Gathering Infraction Procedure Guide are in effect for this event. Players must bring pen, paper and appropriate counters. Eligibility: Open to all players except: Players who have won a qualifier for Pro Tour Gatecrash (including Magic On-line Pro Tour Gatecrash qualifiers). Players who finished in the top 4 of an individual-format Grand Prix that offers invitations to Pro Tour Gatecrash. Players who are members of a top 2 finishing team in a team-format Grand Prix that offers invitations to Pro Tour Gatecrash. Players who finished in the top 25 of Pro Tour Return to Ravnica.
